Botswana 16 Day Overland Camping Safari A safari tour with limited comforts but unlimited adventure. Flexibility and an open mind are essential |
| Day one: Johannesburg - Nata Depart Johannesburg in the early morning and travel to the Botswana border, heading to Nata Lodge, an oasis - like camp on the edge of a salt pan, where we camp. Familiarize yourself with the procedures of the tour over a catered meal ( own expense). Day Two: Nata - Makgadikgadi Pans After breakfast we transfer to the 4X4 vehicle for an initial visit to the Nata Sanctuary to view the spectacular shallow salt pans for their bird life and |
| other desert species. Return to Nata for a swim and something to
eat. We then break camp and head down the Maun road out to the Makgadikgadi pans for a
short interlude on to the white crusty surface. Camp the night wild and take in the
isolation and serenity of the star studded sky. B L D Day Three: Maun Leaving the pans, we drive directly to the Drifters Maun Inn, situated on the banks of the Boteti River, near Maun, and offers us the opportunity to rid ourselves of the Makgadikgadi dust under a warm shower. In the afternoon we will visit Maun and return to the Inn for a traditional "Braai" and overnight. B L D |
| Day Four to Seven: Okavango Delta The Okavango needs little introduction, a massive river spilling its contents into the Kalahari Desert sands and creating one of the world's only true inland deltas, and a unique ecosystem that supports a huge variety of animal and plant life. We spent three nights camping in a remote part of this wilderness, exploring the area on foot, and by mekoro, the traditional aquatic mode of transport. Late on day seven we return to the Drifters Inn in Maun to spruce up before heading into town for a catered meal at a local |
| restaurant ( own expense). B L In times of extreme drought, it may not be possible to travel by mekoro; on such times we will explore the delta on foot and by vehicle. Day Eight to Twelve:Flexible Game Reserve Program( Moremi / Savuti / Chobe) We pop back into Maun first thing in the morning, and while the guide stocks up with supplies, you have the option of a hour's game flight over the delta ( Own expense). Now we prepare for the game viewing part of the trip. Perched high on our well equipped vehicle we head north on the highway of |
| sand. We spend five days in these reserves, starting with Moremi,
camping the first 3 nights at Third Bridge. Drift off to sleep to the howl of the hyena,
the roar of the Lion and the deep grunt of the Hippo. We then head north via Xakanaxa to
camp near North Gate. This is an excellent area for game viewing and we will conduct
afternoon and morning drives. B L D Then up to Savuti were we normally spend two nights. B L D We then move to Chobe, famous for its large herds of Elephant. we spend the morning exploring the banks of the Chobe River. We leave the park to camp on the banks of the river in Kasane.B L D |
| Day Thirteen and Fourteen: Victoria Falls After tedious sandy miles, we head to Victoria Falls where we spend two nights at the Drifters Victoria Falls Inn. You will have the opportunity to enroll in the so many activities available at Vic. Falls ( White water rafting, Bungi-jump, etc.) at your own expense. B D The last night at the falls we all celebrate with a slap-up meal at a local restaurant (own expense).
