The Route Day 1: Johannesburg - Bushveld Camp
Departing early from Johannesburg we head east to the spectacular Mpumalanga, visiting places like Pilgrim's Rest, the Potholes, Blyde River Canyon and the Three Rondavels. We then descend to the Lowveld and overnight in the rustic Drifters Bushveld Camp, bordering the Kruger Park. D
Day 2: Bushveld Camp
Being privately owned, our bush camp gives us the freedom to walk amongst the game and both dayand night game drives. Brunch and diner.
Day 3: Kruger National Park
We leave our bush camp in the morning and enter the Kruger Park, spending the all day game viewing before overnighting in one of the park's rest camps. B L D
Day 4: Hazyview
Leave the park after a morning's game drive and drive the short distance to Hazyview where we overnight at the Drifters Forest Inn next to the Sabie River. B L D
Day 5: Swaziland
We then travel South to enter the Kingdom of Swaziland. We overnight in traditional huts in the Mbabane area, where we have the opportunity of
Buffalo - Kruger National Park
Pilgrim's Rest exploring the area on foot. B L D
Day 6 and 7: Zululand
After a short visit to a local market, we head south to the Drifters Zululand Tented Camp near Hluhluwe, where we overnight for 2 nights in the indigenous sand forest, with a lovely view of Lake St. Lucia. We will participate in walks along the lake shore, a game drive through the Hluhluwe Game Reserve, as well as a visit to a Zulu encampment to experience their traditional food, dancing, beer making and other activities. B L D
Day 8 and 9: Drakensberg
After an early start, we move on to Durban having some time there to explore and enjoy a swim in the Indian Ocean, (lunch own expense) before moving inland to the Drakensberg mountains. We will hike trough the wilderness areas, over crystal clear streams and past abandoned Bushman caves. Spend both nights in the Drifters Mountain Lodge. B L D
Day 10: Lesotho Mountain Kingdom
An early start, we head West through Golden Gate national Park to Maseru Bridge. After a short stop at the capital, Maseru, we venture into the mountains to our overnight stop at the rustic Malealea Lodge. B L D
Day 11 and 12: Karoo
Travelling southwards, we leave Lesotho to explore the lesser known roads of the dry Karoo interior. We spend 2 nights at the Drifters Karoo Inn, exploring the area. B L D
Day 13: Prince Alfred's Pass
This morning, our journey takes us across the Outeniqua mountains, barrier between the
Drakensberg
dry interior and the lush coastal Garden Route area. At around mid-day we arrive at the secluded Drifters Knysna Inn where we will spend the next 3 nights in log cabins in the heart of the forest. After lunch we set off on a walk through the indigenous forest. B L D
Day 14 and 15: Garden Route
These 2 days will be spend exploring this renowned region and its many attractions. We will travel the "Old Passes Road" to the Tsitsikama National Park where we will do part of the acclaimed "Otters Trail".On our way back, we visit Plettenberg Bay and enjoy a boat trip on the Knysna Lagoon. We will explore the "Knysna Heads", and the town itself. One night we will enjoy a meal at a local restaurant (own expense). B L D
Cape Town Day 16 to 18: Cape Town
This morning we board the Outeniqua Choo Choo train for a nostalgic journey along the scenic coastline between Knysna and George(on occasions when the train is not running, we will drive this route). We then travel through theSwellendam region arriving Cape Town in the late afternoon to check in at the Drifters Cape Town Inn on the Sea Point beachfront. We will
spend the next 2 days visiting cape Point, Hout Bay, the Waterfront, Table Mountain, a Wine farm tour and many more. Lunches and diners in Cape Town are at own expense. B
Tour ends at 16H00 on day 18.
