PHINDA PRIVATE GAME RESERVE, ZUKA LODGE

Phinda Zuka Lodge lies within the 17 500-hectare / 43 240-acre Phinda Private Game Reserve, in the Maputaland region of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Phinda neighbours the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park – a World Heritage Site – to the east and is only 30km/19 miles due west of the white-fringed beaches of the Indian Ocean. Meaning sixpence in Zulu, Zuka Lodge offers guests a new experience of Phinda’s pristine wilderness.

Just four thatched Zululand bush cottages set 15 metres (50 feet) apart, featuring verandas overlooking a busy waterhole. Sitting areas feature built-in sofas which double as beds for parents travelling with children 5 years and younger. Air-conditioned bedrooms have fans and en suite bathrooms, with a circular stone bath chamber, double showers, separate w.c and twin hand basins.
The exclusive-use Phinda Zuka Lodge is perfect for families or groups of up to eight people.
Guest areas include an interactive café-style kitchen, intimate library with Internet access, and swimming pool with extended deck overlooking the waterhole where a diversity of wildlife is regularly seen. Deep verandas feature suspended wicker chairs.

Safaris, adventures and activities at Phinda
Tailormake your day by discussing your safari activities with your private ranger. Activities include morning and afternoon/evening game-drives in your private 4x4 safari vehicle, bush walks, riverboat cruises and canoe trips along the Mzinene River, as well as bush sundowners and dinners on the Reserve. Weather
Subtropical climate with hot, humid, wet summers (September to April) and warm to cool, dry winters (May to August).
Rainfall
Rainfall averages about 1 000mm/39” per annum. Much of the rainfall comes in the form of short, intense afternoon thunderstorms. Rain can be expected 12 months of the year. Temperature – Daytime temperatures in summer may rise above 35°C/95°F. Nights in winter rarely drop below 10°C/50°F.
Best time to travel
All year round, best game viewing from March to end September.
Malaria
Phinda is situated in a low-risk malaria area and necessary precautions should be taken
Children
Children are welcome. Sitting areas in the guest cottages feature built-in sofas which double as beds for parents travelling with children 5 years and younger. Regretfully, children 5 years and younger cannot participate in game-drives. Child minders at an additional cost. Children aged 6 to 11 years on game-drives at the Lodge Manager’s discretion.
