The Xugana Lagoon is widely accepted as being the most spectacular permanent water site in the entire Okavango Delta, which in the midst of the Kalahari sands, is Africa's largest and most awe-inspiring oasis.
The Okavango River, rises in the highlands of Angola and never reaches the sea; instead its immense waters empty over the sands of the Kalahari. Here the great desert thirst is quenched in a wilderness of fresh water lagoons, channels and islands.
Xugana Island Lodge is situated on a private concession and takes full advantage of this magnificent site. An open boma and al fresco dining area overlooks the expanse of pristine water that makes up the permanent Delta.
The lounge, bar and dining areas are set back under the Ebony and African Mangosteen tree canopy in open sided thatched structures. The swimming pool, located within the mature gardens in the center of the island, is a perfect place to relax.

Xugana Island Lodge accommodates just 16 guests in large raised reed and thatch lagoon facing chalets, with en-suite facilities and private viewing decks situated on the shaded fringe of the island.
Exploring the Delta by motorboat or canoe (mokoro), combined with walking on surrounding islands in the concession, gives guests the chance to experience a classic Delta safari.
Bird-watching opportunities are outstanding, and fishing for bream and tiger fish is also offered as an activity at the lodge.

Children
No children under 12 years are accepted. No children under the age of 16 are allowed on walking safaris. No childcare/babysitters are provided for at any of our properties. Children must be under the care of their parents at all times. Children aged 16 yrs (inclusive) & younger to share with a parent at all times
How to get there
Access is by charter aircraft from Kasane (served by daily road transfers from Victoria Falls and Livingstone) and Maun to Xugana airstrip. Xugana Island Lodge may also be reached by unique boat transfer from Camp Moremi or Camp Okavango.
Airstrip co-ordinates
Xugana airstrip (private registered): 19.04S 23.04E.
The airstrip is 900 metres long with a grass surface. It is suitable for single-engined aircraft with a maximum all-up weight of 2300 kg. Twin-engined aircraft are not allowed to land at Xugana without permission from the DCA.
Electricity
Generator power (AC 220V) is available during the day and evening. 12-volt DC lighting is supplied for nighttime use, after the generator has been switched off. Video batteries can be recharged – AC 220 volts.
