Kichwa Tembo is situated at
the foot of the Oloololo Escarpment on the western border of the Masai
Mara Reserve in southwestern Kenya. Meaning ‘Head of the Elephant’
in KiSwahili, Kichwa Tembo is located on a private concession leased
from Maasai landlords in the exclusive western Mara – much less
crowded than the eastern part of the Reserve. In addition to an excellent year-round concentration of animals, Kichwa Tembo lies directly in the path of Africa’s spectacular Great Migration of hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti, Tanzania, to the Masai Mara in Kenya. |

Bateleur
Camp at Kichwa Tembo Masai Mara, Kenya Set in a riverine forest on the edge of the Masai Mara National Park in Kenya, Bateleur Camp at Kichwa Tembo - a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World - is the epitome of private tented luxury. The Camp comprises nine luxurious safari tents overlooking the plains of the Masai Mara, each with private butler service. The spacious tented suites under wood-shingled roofs are luxuriously furnished with wooden-framed beds, ceiling fans, and en-suite facilities comprising twin hand-basins and glass-walled showers with forest view, and toilet. Guest areas include a sitting room with beautifully hand-crafted artefacts, venerable leather sofas, safari antiques and books. There are also indoor/outdoor dining areas, and the shaded 12.5m lap pool is an unusual Kenyan bush camp feature.
